Caregivers Honored at Northwest Health - Porter
11/30/2022
Valparaiso, IN – Northwest Health - Porter honored two caregivers in November. Jessica Shope, BSN, RN, was the recipient of the DAISY award for exceptional nursing and Laura Shireman, certified nursing assistant, was the recipient of the PETALS award for outstanding support professionals.
Shope, a new nurse to Northwest Health - Porter, was nominated by a co-worker who wrote that Shope continually shows compassion to all of her patients. She added that Shope is a great teammate and has been recognized numerous times by her patients and their families for being so attentive to their needs and making them ‘feel important.’
Shireman was nominated by a patient’s daughter who wrote that her mother is bed-bound and that Shireman ‘came to her rescue’ to make her feel more at ease and comfortable during her stay. She added that the care and compassion Shireman showed her mother was heartwarming and made all the difference to her mother – making her ‘feel human’ during a vulnerable time.
DAISY award recognitions honor the remarkable work nurses do every day – wherever they practice, in whatever role they serve throughout their entire careers. It was established to celebrate the extraordinary compassion that nurses, like Shope, continually provide their patients and families. Nurses may be nominated by employees, patients and hospital visitors.
The PETALS award honors non-nursing professionals, like Shireman, for their exceptional skills and support. PETALS award recipients can also be nominated by patients, visitors and employees.
