11/11/2015
11/11/2015 (New Carlisle, IN) - Free health screenings, healthy snacks and an opportunity to meet and greet healthcare providers will be the featured activities at an open house celebration commemorating 10 years of healthcare services at the office of Laura Hannon, M.D., from IU Health La Porte Physicians Primary Care in New Carlisle. The event will take place form 9 a.m. - Noon (EST), Nov. 13 at the physician office, 8988 E. Highway 20, New Carlisle. Current patients and the community at large are invited.
"The last 10 years have passed quickly, and I am surprised when I consider all of the things that have changed and evolved in healthcare and in our office in this time. I hope and pray that our presence in New Carlisle has had a positive impact here," Hannon said.
Kim Pflughaupt and Wendy Dutcher, both Certified Family Nurse Practitioners at the office, will be at the open house to meet and greet the community and provide healthcare information. IU Health La Porte Hospital Wellness Outreach Specialists will provide free body mass index, blood pressure and blood sugar screenings, and healthy snacks will be available.
The growth of primary care in New Carlisle has been an important priority for IU Health La Porte Physicians, who have a strategic goal of improving access to healthcare in the communities they serve. "We are pleased to have seen the practice grow to include our nurse practitioners as well, who are such an important part of the primary healthcare team," said JoEllen England, senior office manager for the practice.
Gina Russi, office manager for the past 10 years, reflected upon some of the key moments that have resonated with her. "I remember once, a van pulled up in the parking lot and a man ran into the office stating his passenger was having chest pain. The passenger was from out of town - not a current patient - but. Dr. Hannon attended to him immediately while 911 was called," Russi said. "Another time, Dr. Hannon was at a little league game and a boy was hit in the mouth with a bat. Dr. Hannon attended to him, went to the hospital and stayed until the ED team took over."
Hannon also has provided first aid training to little league coaches, and taught sign language to parents and toddlers at the library. She attends to local patients at nursing homes, has a certification of recognition for diabetic management, and plans to become a lactation specialist after completing training in December.
"It has been a blessing to be able to live and practice in New Carlisle. Our office team is second to none, and I have been blessed to be able to work with this group to serve our community," Hannon said. "We want to thank all of our patients for giving us the opportunity care for them and hope they are able to join us for the open house."
