11/3/2015
11/3/2015 (La Porte, IN) - Music from the composer known for the Pink Panther theme song and Peter Gunn television series will come alive on Friday, Nov. 6 as artists Tim King and Andrew Tallackson present Mancini and More at First Fridays in the Chapel. The program is free and open to the public, at noon in the La Porte Hospital Family Chapel, 1007 Lincolnway, La Porte.
King, a tenor, will perform Mancini tunes and music from Lerner & Loewe, Cole Porter, Johnny Mandel and others. He has appeared as a tenor soloist with many orchestras around the country, and is a veteran of about 150 appearances with symphony orchestras from Buffalo, New York to Santa Barbara, California. King is a Kentucky native who moved to Rolling Prairie in 2013 upon his retirement after 32 years serving The Louisville Orchestra, The Kentucky Center for Performing Arts, and the Jefferson County Public School System. He just recently finished a nine-month tenure as the Interim Executive Director for the La Porte County Symphony Orchestra while they searched for a permanent executive director. King also is a student of Victoria Garrett of Bethel College.
Tallackson, especially well-known in local theater and musical circles, will accompany King during the performance, lending his piano talent that sprouted at age 7 with private lessons and leading to an audition at age 12 for the Emerson School for Visual and Performing Arts in Gary. He later graduated with a concentration in piano and violin, and attended Indiana University Bloomington, where he continued to study piano but graduated with degrees in journalism and film. Tallackson is the editor of The Beacher Weekly Newspaper, having formerly worked as entertainment editor at The News-Dispatch for 15 years. After a year and a half off due to complications from Chrohn's disease, Tallackson is now in remission and remains active as the co-producer on John Hancock's "The Looking Glass," which debuted in theaters in Lost Angeles and New York in October. He also is the co-founder of the Young People's Theatre Company in Michigan City. Tallackson plays keyboard with the worship team at La Porte First Church of God. He and his wife Alice, a first grade teacher, live in Trail Creek with their won, Will.
