Music of 1930s-50s inspires First Friday performer
8/30/2015
8/30/2015 (La Porte, IN) - Donovan Diedrich loves the sound of big band and swing oldies from 1930s to 1950s. It was this inspiration that led him to start entertaining residents at local senior living centers with his uplifting keyboard and piano talent.
Diedrich, a La Porte native and 2012 graduate of La Porte High School, will be the featured performer at First Friday in the Chapel at noon, Sept. 4 in the IU Health La Porte Hospital Family Chapel. The event is free and open to the public; bring a lunch!
Diedrich became interested in music during middle school when he was exposed to beginning piano, guitar and drums, as well as choir. Piano, though, really piqued his interest and he began to learn to play by watching videos online. Once he reached high school and joined choir again, he decided to make his music education more formal, and began taking lessons at Roxy Music in 2010. He still studies today, and strives to learn more every time he plays.
In addition to playing at local senior facilities, Diedrich also enjoys accompanying other students, especially vocalists. He hopes to study music at the college level in the future.
Diedrich's advice for anyone who wants to learn to play: "It's never too late!"
The First Friday in the Chapel series offers outstanding musical performances each month, and is made possible by the La Porte Hospital Foundation Chapel Fund for wellness and holistic health - body, mind and spirit.
