Northwest Health Hospitals Nationally Recognized with High Hospital Safety Grades from Leapfrog Group
11/6/2023
Two Northwest Health hospitals received high marks for quality of care today from The Leapfrog Group, a national nonprofit watchdog that sets standards for excellence in patient care.
Northwest Health – Porter received an “A” Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade for fall 2023 and Northwest Health – La Porte received a “B”.
Leapfrog assigns an “A,” “B,” “C,” “D” or “F” grade to general hospitals across the country based on over 30 national performance measures reflecting errors, accidents, injuries and infections, as well as the systems hospitals have in place to prevent harm.
“The fall 2023 safety grade of A once again reflects our ongoing commitment to our patients and serving the communities of Northwest Indiana,” said James Leonard, D.O., interim CEO of Northwest Health – Porter. “I wish to thank and acknowledge every member of our team for consistently putting quality care first by keeping our patients safe from harm and medical errors.”
The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is the only hospital ratings program exclusively based on hospital prevention of medical errors, infections and injuries that kill more than 500 patients a day nationally. The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually in the fall and spring.
“This new update in Hospital Safety Grades means that Northwest Health made a true commitment to put patients first,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “We congratulate the leadership, Board, clinicians, staff and volunteers that all had a role to play in this achievement.”
