Region Stars to Perform at First Friday in the Chapel

La Porte, IN - The regionally famous Shania Povlock and Geovanny Tapia will be the featured performers at the next First Friday in the Chapel, with Patrick Watterson on piano. The program starts at noon, Aug. 5 at the La Porte Hospital Family Chapel, 1007 Lincolnway, La Porte. It is free and open to the public and participants are welcome to bring a lunch.
Povlock and Tapia were duet partners and Hoosier STAR youth finalists, and have been friends since sixth grade, when they were in choir and show choir together. The pair are now is mixed choral at La Porte High School, and have performed together in a few productions at the La Porte Little Theatre, where they both served as youth leaders for the summer camp for children this year.
Povlock has been a volunteer at La Porte Hospital for three years, and has performed the National Anthem at the University of Notre Dame, South Bend Cubs, and Arts in the Park, to name a few. She was Hoosier STAR youth runner up and Rising Star Award winner in 2013, and won Mint Idol in 2014. Povlock has performed in the long-term care unit inside the hospital, in the hospital lobby at Christmas time, at the Tour de La Porte event for cancer care, and at Holiday at the Pops. She is the daughter of Amy and Mark Povlock, and has a younger brother, Luke.
Tapia has performed in several La Porte Little Theatre productions, and at La Porte High School for various events. He also has performed at the Dunes Summer Theatre in Jesus Christ Superstar. Singing has been a part of his life for as long as he can remember, but he also enjoys dancing and writing. He is the son of Geovanny and Christina Tapia, and has two older sisters, Rose and Cynthia.
At the August First Friday in the Chapel, Povlock and Tapia will perform a variety of selections, including Dream A Little Dream, Can't Help Falling In Love With You, Somewhere Over The Rainbow and other favorites.
The duo is looking forward to performing with the La Porte County Symphony Orchestra for Hoosier Star in September this year.
