Signs of Diabetes
Many people do not have signs or symptoms that their blood sugar is high. Symptoms can also be so mild you may not even notice them. These are the signs of high blood sugar:
- Increased thirst
- Increased hunger
- Fatigue
- Increased urination, especially at night
- Weight loss
- Blurred vision
- Sores that do not heal
Who is at risk?
You are at an increased risk of developing Type 2 diabetes if:
- You are overweight.
- You are over the age of 35.
- You have a parent, brother or sister with diabetes.
- You have a family background that is African American, American Indian, Asian American, Pacific Islander or Hispanic American/Latino.
- You do not exercise.
- You have low HDL cholesterol.
- You have high triglycerides.
- You have high blood pressure.
- You have had gestational diabetes or a baby weighing nine pounds or more at birth.
If you have these risks, get tested for diabetes. If you have diabetes, the sooner you find out the better.
